Located on the beautiful Great South Coast, South West Healthcare offers a comprehensive range of medical, surgical and psychiatric services. The organisation serves a catchment in excess of 110,000 and comprises of a total of 282 beds and an extensive range of primary and community services. Warrnambool boasts excellent sporting, education (pre-school to university), social and cultural facilities. The city’s award winning foreshore promenade is a 5.7km path that stretches from the breakwater along the coastline to the Hopkins River mouth.

The Graduate Aged Care / General Nursing Program (GACGNP) is a joint program between our two campuses at Camperdown Campus's Aged Care service Merindah Lodge and Warrnambool Base Hospital. Applications are now invited for the 2021 year.

About our 2021 GACGNP

SWH believes in providing a highly supportive environment for all Graduate Nurses that encourages professional development and excellence in nursing care. Our aim is to provide clinical support during the transition from student to Registered Nurse, whilst encouraging self-directed learning. The program provides Graduate Nurses with the opportunity to consolidate and apply theoretical knowledge, while developing skills in a variety of settings. The Graduate Nurse year at SWH is a 53-week program commencing from February 2021. The program comprises of a 6 month rotation in Merindah Lodge Aged Care based at our Camperdown Hospital and another 6 month rotation within general nursing at Warrnambool Base Hospital. The successful applicants are employed to work either full or part time hours (a minimum 64 hours per fortnight).

All our GACGNP positions are subject to the state-wide Computer Matching process, conducted by the Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV). All Graduate Nurse positions are allocated in Victoria through this Computer Matching Service. The rules for the GNP eligibility and matching to all the hospitals in Victoria are governed by PMCV in conjunction with the Victorian Government funding body, Department of Health and Human Services. To be eligible for our GACGNP you must have a current residential address within Victoria. Graduates of interstate Universities or full-fee paying Victoria graduates can still apply for a limited number of places. Refer to PMCV guidelines and website for full details at www.pmcv.com.au

With a population of 34,000 and a catchment of 100,000 Warrnambool is the regional centre to Victoria's Great South Coast.

Our Camperdown Campus is located only a 45 minutes' drive from Warrnambool or less than a 2 and a half hour drive along the Princes Highway from Melbourne. The Camperdown Campus comprises of our Merindah Lodge Aged Care Service with 36 aged care beds, an Acute ward of 25 beds and an Operating Theatre suite with a 2 bed recovery room.

  2. Curriculum Vitae/Resume (maximum two pages), including one clinical placement referee and one non-clinical employee referee
  3. Copy of your academic transcript to date (including grading key)
  4. Copy of two most recent acute clinical placement assessments
  5. Copy of passport styled photograph of applicant

The successful applicant will be required to be eligible for and undergo the following:

  • Police Record Check
  • Employee Working with Children's Check
  • Current Immunisation status

Employment Terms and Conditions will be in line with the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2016-2020, with the classification Registered Nurse Grade 2 Year 1 (Graduate Nurse) as appropriate.
