PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
The Aboriginal Activity and Support Officer supports Aboriginal residents to ensure their care, environmental and social needs are being met and are aligned with Amana Living’s core values and the Age Care Quality Standards. Working under the direction of the Occupational Therapist or Service Manager, they provide and source culturally safe activities, facilitate residents who have an NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) plan to engage with their providers, work as part of the team and undertake administrative processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The key responsibilities will include;
- Provide input to site management and staff to assist to build a culturally safe service for Aboriginal residents and staff
- Working under the direction of the Occupational Therapist or Service Manager, provide and source culturally safe activities
- Ensure activities and support are matched to resident preferences and goals as per assessments and information gathered through building relationships with the resident
- Assist residents and families to complete documentation to test eligibility for the NDIS
- Facilitate residents who have an NDIS plan to engage with their providers
- Undertakes practical tasks with or on behalf of residents such as considered necessary
- Work as part of the team and undertake documentation and administrative tasks
- Provide information, education, and assistance to client and their families/carers as required
- Liaises with external organisations and agencies as required
- Ensuring compliance is maintained in line with Amana Living’s policies and procedures and accreditation standards are sustained
- Attending and actively participating in compulsory training sessions and meetings
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of own work practices and program improvements
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Australian Aboriginality is a genuine occupational requirement of this position
- Relevant experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients will be highly regarded.
- Undertaking relevant studies or experience in similar
- National Police Clearance Certificate (no older than 6 months)
- Demonstrated ability to complete documentation and administrative tasks
- Intermediary computer literacy
- Successful completion of pre-medical form and reference checks
- ‘C’ Class drivers license
