Your new team

  • This position is based at the OSP Inpatient Unit in Footscray, an Acute Mental Health Inpatient service for young people.

  • You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and be responsible for the delivery of high quality evidence based nursing to young people across a range of speciality complex areas.

  • Our unit adheres to a philosophy of least restrictive intervention service delivery, that is recovery focussed and young person centred.

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Fulfil the roles and responsibilities of the registered nurse, demonstrating expert knowledge and skills whilst assuming a prominent management focus within the OSP inpatient unit.

  • Be an integral member of the inpatient leadership team, assisting the NUM in the course of their duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinical environment.

  • Work closely with the NUM and Team Leader in managing the nursing and clerical resources available to the OSP inpatient unit and sets the clinical standards to achieve a high quality of service delivery.

  • Reflect and uphold a working environment which supports professional development and job satisfaction.

  • Act as a primary point of contact for clinical issues and is a resource for staff on each shift.

  • Provide mentorship, peer support and counselling to staff and ensure that consumer feedback is escalated to the Team leader.

Your Contribution

  • A Registered Psychiatric Nurse with experience or interest in working with young people experiencing first presentation mental illness

  • Current registration with AHPRA and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health or above

  • Bring leadership; a high level of reliability and organisation and delegation to each shift

  • You will bring your own expertise to our team, sharing your knowledge and experience to the program

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

  • Ability to provide optimal care and expertise within the service framework

  • Clinical expertise in mental state assessment and risk assessment

  • Demonstrated ability in time management and organisational skills

  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills within a team framework and demonstrated ability to relate to young people, carers, other professionals and members of the general community

  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, government policy and strategic directions in the mental health field
