Barkuma Incorporated is a leading not-for-profit South Australian organisation which offers multi-dimensional services for people with a diagnosed developmental disability ranging from intellectual, Down syndrome, learning disabilities and Autism spectrum disorder.

About the Role

This role is so different from any other job support role you have seen.

Working at Barkuma DES (Disability Employment Service) means that you will NOT be bound to an office desk. You will be out and about most of your day, supporting participants in their roles, learning about innumerable industries and those duties, in order to educate your participants in the roles they will be undertaking.

In actuality, you may find that our participants are really teaching you, about life. This role is all about changing the lives of people with an intellectually disability and in the process it will change yours too.

This is a permanent full time role which will be based primarily out of our city office. Parking is available. A company tool of the trade vehicle will be made available to you, along with company laptop and mobile phone. Plus 5 week’s annual leave and many other benefits under our Enterprise Agreement.

About You

  • A chameleon who can integrate your existing knowledge, skills and personality into any industry and organisation.
  • Be engaging by using your natural ability to build great rapport, which in turn will assist negotiate long term employment opportunities for our participants.
  • Ensure employment opportunities fit both participant and employer need and therefore contribute to team goals.
  • Be the person that provides solutions for South Australian businesses around their workloads, whilst strengthening diversity and inclusion in workplaces.
  • Use your innate abilities to act ethically and conduct yourself appropriately at all times.
  • Be person-centred and use strategies to attract and retain employers.
  • Be able to work outside of normal work hours, as necessary, as not every employer nor participant job is 9am-5pm.

To be considered you will need:

  • Valid drivers’ licence (essential)
  • DHS Disability Services, Aged Care and Working with Children’s clearance along with Child Safe Environments may be required
