Position Title: Senior Biomedical Research Scientist (Senior Research Officer/Fellow)

Employment Type: Full Time (Max Term) 12 months

Hours per week: 38

Position Grade: HSM 2

Salary: $100,060.36-$111,857.43

Position Summary

A senior post-doctoral scientist with cellular and molecular biology and/or NGS population genetics experience is invited to apply to join the Blood, Stem Cell and Cancer Research Program of Professor David Ma in the St Vincent’s Centre for Applied Medical Research (AMR).

Our program focuses on the effects of biological ageing on haematopoietic stem cells, how this drives disease, and how they can be targeted therapeutically. This multifaceted research program therefore requires a motivated scientist with some or all of the following expertise: population genetics (including targeted NGS/bioinformatics for large population cohorts), stem cell biology (induced pluripotent stem cell and/or haematopoietic stem cell biology, CRISPR-based gene editing, flow cytometry), drug testing (including low and high-throughput screening), and the use of in vivo models (drug treatment and/or stem cell xenotransplantation), with the eventual goal of translating findings into clinical practice. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and clinicians and have a track record of relevant publications as a key author. Experience in successful grant applications will be highly regarded.

The position is available for 12 months with the likelihood of renewal. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with qualification and experience.

Selection Criteria

  • PhD in biomedical or life sciences from a recognized tertiary organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in some or all of the skills and techniques listed in the Position Summary.
  • General biomedical statistics experience, including clinical correlations, survival analyses, regression models, and/or epidemiology also desirable.
  • Ability to write journal articles, grant applications and reports and supervise students as required.
  • Demonstrated communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and computer literacy.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a diverse and multidisciplinary team and to work unsupervised.
  • Demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development and to workplace health and safety.
  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
