JOB DESCRIPTION

The Families and Young People Services team have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, knowledgeable, resilient, proactive and experienced professional counsellor to join Mercy Community’s Counselling program on a fixed term part time basis, working 45 hours per fortnight. This contract is available now until 30th June 2021 and will be based in our Toowoomba office.

The role…

You will provide counselling and therapeutic services to clients; including assessments, pre- & post-evaluations and interventions. This position also liaises with a broad network of stakeholders who participate in or impact on the success of client plans, referrals and goals.

To be eligible for this position you will require (Key Selection Criteria):

Level 3: 3- or 4-year tertiary qualification in Social Work, Social Science, Counselling, Psychology, Behavioural Sciences or related discipline.

Level 4: Relevant 3-year degree with at least 2 years’ previous relevant experience, or 4-year degree with at least 1 year’s previous relevant experience and demonstrated experience developing individualised and/or family treatment plans.

  • A high-level understanding of statutory child protection processes and working with families and children, including a sound knowledge of, and sensitivity to, the range of issues impacting upon vulnerable families, young people and children.
  • Experience in working creatively with families and the people supporting them, ensuring engagement between all stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written skills, to develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and the ability to write clear case notes and reports via Mercy Community systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when providing a service to clients and external stakeholders from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated intermediate ability to use computer IT systems including MS Word and Excel
  • You must hold a positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card), a Queensland Provisional Green or above Drivers Licence and have the ability to obtain a positive Police Check and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required.
  • For applicable programs, evidence of current vaccination against whooping cough or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.
It is beneficial for candidates to have:
  • Eligibility for membership associations including but not limited to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
  • Training in play-based therapies with a trauma focus, i.e., sand play therapy, play therapy, art therapy, music therapy, neuro-sequential model of trauma therapy, or other relevant training.
  • An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and societies and the issues which impact upon them in contemporary society together with a commitment to culturally appropriate engagement and practice.

This position offers a competitive annual salary of $62,738 - $77,854 gross per annum in line with level 3 to 4 of our Enterprise Agreement (dependent on qualifications and experience) and other benefits in line with our Agreement.
