JOB DESCRIPTION

Lahey have built a wide and diverse portfolio of projects ranging from hospitals, aged care, education and correctional facilities as well as community infrastructure, luxury apartments and resort complexes.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced

Estimator

to join our team, located in our Mid-North Coast Head Office.

The Estimator is responsible for providing estimates for the tendering of a wide range of construction projects and providing accurate measurement and pricing of projects, including providing recommendations on materials and engineering processes that can be sourced for the client to improve the construction of the project, and assist in winning tenders.

Your responsibilities include (

):


  • Preparation of tenders that are technically and numerically correct.
  • Reviewing all estimates with Estimating Manager prior to final management review to ensure a timely presentation and a comprehensive tender final review.
  • Demonstrating an awareness of all authority requirements associated with the Project for such issues as, BCA requirements, Council DA requirements, Building Permits and the like of other such Authorities as Water and Electrical.
  • Managing the preparation of handover files and conduct handover meetings with the Project Construction Delivery Team Manager.
  • Checks tender preliminaries and invitation to tender requirements ensuring any special conditions are costed and included in the tender price
  • Evaluate and determine scope of work for tender package from information including specified scale and quality standards from contract documentation.
  • Assemble tender list of preferred sub-contractors appropriate to the size of the project and its geographic location.
  • Call and manage pre-tender meetings for select sub-contractors to familiarise potential tenderers with the scale and complexity of the job. If necessary as a winning strategy, negotiate with each listed tenderer to obtain best offer on price and conditions.
  • Manage distribution and control of updated drawings and documentation,
  • Demonstrates an awareness of current market conditions and effectively utilises them in tender preparation.
  • Consults with sub-contractors and suppliers for mandatory estimates where sufficient documentation exists to communicate Lahey Constructions requirements effectively.
  • Identify risk areas in the documentation keeping a progressive list and communicate the risks so they can be qualified or excluded in the tender submission
  • Establish line of communication with client and the designers for information and clarifications during the tender process.
Skills & experience:
  • Ideally, you will be degree qualified in a Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
  • Have a proven track record in the submission of successful tenders ranging in value from $5M-$30M
  • You will have the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with sub-contractors
