About Department
St Vincent's Correctional Health Service (SVCHS) at Port Phillip Prison (PPP) provides primary health, mental health and secondary medical health care to prisoners at Port Phillip Prison, Laverton. Port Phillip Prison is a maximum security male prison accommodating approximately 1107 inmates and is situated 20 km West of Melbourne. SVCHS works collaboratively with Forensic Mental Health Services (FMHS) who provides secondary outpatient and inpatient care for those prisoners with a mental illness.
About the Role

Accountable to the Manager, Occupational Therapy Department, St Vincent's Hospital, you as the Grade 3 Occupational Therapist are responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of a high quality occupational therapy service to inpatients at St Johns unit, Port Philip Prison. The role requires leadership skills to oversee the operations of the occupational therapy service and the Grade 2 Correctional Health Occupational Therapist based at St Johns.

Classifications for this position will range from Occupational Therapist Grade 3 VG3 - VG6 ($93,80- $107,200 per annum).


* Provide optimal Occupational Therapy clinical management to all patients through the continuum of care by assessment, treatment, re-evaluation, documentation, team liaison and effective discharge planning.
* Undertake a clinical caseload and provide a clinically relevant service based on current evidence based practice and best practice principles.
* Master a working understanding of the health and correctional interface
* Establish and maintain strategic links and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders appropriate to this senior role.
* Provision of and participation in supervision of staff as required

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

* A minimum of seven or more years experience in relevant occupational therapy clinical environment.
* Achieved or working towards a post-graduate Masters or other higher qualification in relevant professional area
* A keen interest & working knowledge of occupational therapy intervention to patients in the acute, aged care and rehabilitation settings.
* Demonstrate requisite knowledge of the Victorian Correctional System
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
