About Older Persons Mental Health Service
The Older Person's Mental Health Service (OPMHS) provides comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment and treatment for older adults over the age of 65 years who have a mental illness, dementia with behavioural or psychological symptoms or a longstanding mental illness complicated by age related illness. It comprises three aspects of care:
- The Older Person's Mental Health Service provides inpatient care for both acute and extended treatment. Services are provided by a multi-disciplinary team including psychogeriatric consultant psychiatrists, psychiatric register, medical officer, psychologist, occupational therapist, social worker and nursing staff.
- This service also provides care to older adults in the community experiencing severe mental health problems including psychogeriatric outpatient clinics, reviews for people in Residential Aged Care Facilities and home visits.
- A Psychogeriatric Neurocognitive Assessment Clinic is also available specialising in the assessment of patients with cognitive problems and neuropsychiatric symptoms.
About the role
In this role you will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team by effectively integrating psychology services and perspectives with those of other disciplines to achieve optimal health outcomes for the consumer.
About you
The successful applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Ability to provide high quality evidence-based neuropsychology and clinical psychology assessments, therapy, and interventions to older persons with psychiatric disorders in the context of the biopsychosocial aspects of ageing.
- Ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate the delivery of psychology services to meet the needs of Older Mental Health consumers within a community and inpatient setting.
- Ability to work with families and consumers in line with the Consumer and Carer Framework. This includes the ability to work collaboratively with Older Mental Health consumers and their families, carers and other service providers and other mental health teams/services within a strong recovery framework and in achieving identified consumer outcomes. This includes contributing to the development of, and the use of, key clinical tools such as recovery plans, relapse prevention plans, crisis intervention plans and outcomes measures.
- Ability to provide clinical practice supervision to less experienced psychologists and students on postgraduate placement in accordance with the PsyBA guidelines.
- Ability to be proactive, show initiative and work autonomously in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
