Looking for a meaningful way to spend an hour each week or fortnight?

Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury is looking for volunteers to join our Community Visitors Scheme (CVS), a program that enhances social connections for recipients in aged-care facilities. The aim of CVS is to provide companionship to those most vulnerable to loneliness and enrich their quality of life.

We are recruiting!

COVID-19 has meant even greater social disconnection for many of our elderly, so we are looking for volunteers in the Northern Sydney region to meet an increased need for our service. The only necessary qualifications are a warm disposition, empathy and a willingness to listen! The experience is richly rewarding and would suit anyone looking to give back.

What’s involved?

With a focus on friendship and companionship, we connect each recipient with a likeminded visitor. Time spent together could include discussion of current affairs, enjoying a game of Scrabble, tackling a Sudoku puzzle or just sharing a friendly chat – it’s the connection that counts.

While face-to-face visits are preferred, during COVID-19 restriction periods, some interactions could be via phone, video link or even by letter. Visits can be weekly or fortnightly, and we are looking for volunteers who are willing to give time and develop a genuine connection.

CVS volunteers need to complete short online training. We also need proof of a current flu vaccination, a requirement of aged-care facilities. Volunteers receive ongoing training and support from our Lifeline H2H team.
