Clinical Case Manager (HYPE, Orygen)



  • Join the "Helping Young People Early" (HYPE) Program

  • Part Time - Fixed Term position (0.6 EFT) until January 2022

  • Multidisciplinary role (Occupational Therapist Grade 2, Social Worker Grade 2, Psychologist Grade 2 or Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 3)

Your new team



  • The Helping Young People Early (HYPE) program was established in 1999 and provides an evidence-based early intervention service for borderline personality disorder (BPD) in youth

  • The program offers treatment to young people diagnosed with 3 or more DSM-V BPD criteria, with no specific exclusions for co-occurring psychopathology

  • Treatment comprises assertive case management, general psychiatric care, and up to 16 sessions of individual psychotherapy using cognitive analytic therapy

  • This role provides specialist mental health treatment to young people aged 15-24 who are eligible for treatment in the HYPE program

  • The HYPE clinical case manager/therapist works within a multidisciplinary team environment and is responsible for the provision of the HYPE intervention, which includes mental health assessment, assertive case management and treatment


Your success in this role, will be in your ability to



  • Provide specialist mental health treatment to young people aged 15-24 who are eligible for treatment in the HYPE program

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team environment

  • Provide the HYPE intervention, which includes mental health assessment, assertive case management and treatment (including outreach work), individual psychotherapy (using a cognitive analytic therapy framework), development of an individual service plan with the client and delivery of individual, family and systemic treatment interventions

  •  Management of a clinical caseload and consultation and liaison with other services relevant to the client

  • Co-provision of secondary consultation to services external to Orygen Youth Health


Your Contribution



  • Experience in the provision of mental health services to young people

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in clinical practice within the mental health field, including young people experiencing mental health disorders

  • Experience and expertise in providing case management

  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate client-centred individual service plans, risk assessments and diagnostic formulations

  • Capacity to provide, or develop skills in, integrated assessment, treatment and care for dual diagnosis clients

  • Knowledge of the rationale and evidence for early intervention in mental illness

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with young people and their families 

  • NB - Applicants who do not have experience and training in cognitive analytic therapy will receive training and supervision in this role
