About the SPICE IV Trial

The Sedation Practice in Intensive Care Evaluation (SPICE IV) is funded by the NHMRC to run over 5 years. The trial is expected to recruit 3500 patients, who are older than 65 years and are expected to be ventilated for more than 24 hours, in over 70 ICUs worldwide.

About The Role

The successful applicant will join a highly performing research team and management committee.
This position will have responsibility for the delivery of strategic and operational planning and execution to the successful conclusion of the SPICE IV trial.
The incumbent, in close liaison with the management committee, will plan and manage the research
program, manage evolving risks, study execution, data base and CRF design, report to meet study
objectives, research protocols, timeframes and regulatory compliance requirements. Liaise with and represent the SPICE IV trial with key partners including ethics committees, NHMRC, other research coordinators and PIs, clinical trials networks, database and study medication procurement vendors. Manage the data monitoring plan through agreed arrangement as required.

About You

Successful applicant would be a highly experienced in the critical care area and clinical trials management. Be familiar with project management methodology including budgetary and financial management. Is highly organized, well developed analytical skills with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Expected to be enthusiastic, compassionate & able to work collaboratively, able to priorities and meet deadlines. Be autonomous in work organization and time management. Be adept in problem solving and is a solution focused and attentive to details person.

Selection Criteria Significant clinical trial and research experience in ICU or critical care discipline with postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications

Previous experience and/or project management expertise relevant to multicentre trials

Highly-developed planning and organizational skills, with experience establishing priorities, allocating resources and meeting deadlines in a complex research environment

High level interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with a high performance research team efficiently, and negotiate, problem solve and build collaborative relationships with participating sites and other stakeholders worldwide

Well developed analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to create innovative solutions

Ability to work autonomously, priorities tasks, meet deadlines through well developed organization and planning skills

Familiar with the NHMRC Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research

Well developed data management and computer skills including ability to navigate complex spread sheets
