Summary/Purpose
Roper Gulf Regional Council incorporates 11 main communities where core and agency services are
delivered such as Council Administration, Waste Management, Postal and Tourism support, Youth, Sport &
Recreation Services, Aged Care Support, Child Care Support, Library Facilities, CDP Programs, Essential
Services, Power and Water services, Night Patrol and many more.
The Council’s mission statement of “Working as one towards a better future through effective use of all
Resources”. This serves to give strategic direction to the Council’s service delivery and its partnership with
the NT and Australian Governments and other stakeholders.
The overall vision of Roper Gulf Regional Council is to be a sustainable, viable and vibrant leader.

1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- The position works collaboratively with the Manager Projects & Community Engagement to deliver waste management, landfill
- Deliver recycling and waste management services in line with Council’s Operational Plans and EPA requirements by supporting
- In conjunction with the Manager, assist in identifying local community needs, strengths, opportunities and gaps in waste and
- Build relationships with internal staff to ensure a high level of service delivery
- Cooperate and liaise with external agencies and individuals on behalf of Council in a professional and respectful manner.
- Work within Council’s competing priorities of Council’s waste management and resource recovery obligations and compliance.
- Assist the Program Manager to effectively identify and manage conflict and potential sources of conflict or dissatisfaction
- Provide technical support on waste management and resource recovery projects to ensure program outcomes, timing, budgets
- Advise the Manager on the status of waste management and resource recovery projects and activities
- Assist in the establishment and maintenance of a forward works program for waste management and resource recovery projects
- Assist in the preparation, lodgement and management of grant funding applications from external funding bodies for waste
- Support contract Management activities related to delivery of waste management and resource recovery projects and programs
- Monitor project progress to ensure milestones and key performance indicators are met and prepare project progress reports
- Participate in the preparation and delivery of key stakeholder consultation when undertaken in relation to the delivery of waste
- Deal with sensitive issues with discretion and confidentiality.
- In conjunction with the Program Manager and Council Services Coordinator’s, assist in the annual budget process for all Waste
- Work with Council Services Coordinator’s to ensure all Council’s Waste Management and Recycling programs are within budget.
- Ensure all assets utilised in waste management and recycling operations across the Region are maintained to an acceptable
- Ensure performance reviews are conducted for all Resource Recovery and Waste Management staff.
- Assist the Manager to regularly review and implement Regional waste management and recycling operational and activity plans.
- While at work, take reasonable care of your health and safety and that of persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions
- Cooperate with Council’s actions taken to comply with a requirement imposed by or under any Act or regulation.
- Work with Council Services Coordinators to ensure compliance with Council’s Workplace Health and Safety Policies and
- Participate in relevant training programs and seminars to enhance professional performance
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team
- Relieve in the role of Council Services Coordinator as required to ensure continuity of service delivery and to facilitate the leave
- Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by the Manager or General Manager
ESSENTIAL
- Diploma or advanced Diploma or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated record of achievement in the delivery of infrastructure management services and successful completion of small
- Demonstrated ability to plan at an operational level across a range of activities and locations for a period in excess of one month
- Demonstrated operator skills relevant to the operation and maintenance of small and heavy plant in relation to civil works, natural
- Demonstrated work organisational skills required to coordinate and support a remote team and a number of projects
- Competent in oral and written communication skills with the ability to write standard correspondence and technical reports that
- Excellent organisational and time management skills and superior written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability
- Ability to maintain and process information regarding complex contracts, agreements and project plans
- Well-developed word-processing and computer application skills
- Disciplined approach and attention to detail
- Ability to operate as an effective team member
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously

- Engineering qualification or extensive construction Management experience
- Current Northern Territory Manual “C” Class Drivers Licence or ability to obtain
- Able to meet the inherent requirements of the position both physically and mentally.
