Hughenden Multipurpose Health Service is a 24-hour accident and emergency hospital with a 15-bed acute facility, general medical and four long-stay nursing home-type beds. The centre has visiting services including Royal Flying Doctors Service, female GP, paediatrician and chest physician.

This role will utilise clinical skills, knowledge and experience the position holder will deliver a high standard of evidence based person centred care to patients, providing support to patients, families and other healthcare colleagues within the Hughenden Multipurpose Health Service.

Ideally seeking an applicant with prior rural and remote experience or 2 years in a busy Emergency Department.

Role requirements

  • Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
  • Highly Desirable: Experience in Emergency Department, Rural Nursing and a current Adult Life Support certificate or willingness to work towards.
  • Adult Life Support Certificate: Must be able to obtain and then maintain an annual competency in Advanced Life Support as per Townsville Hospital and Health Service policy Life Support Training and Assessment -THSDCLI040151v6 (http://qheps.health.qld.gov.au/tville/policies/thsdcli/thsdcli040151.pdf)
  • Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
  • Aged Care Pre Employment Screening will be required: Under section 96-1 of the Aged Care Act 1997 and the Department of Health Police Certificate Guidelines 2017, appointees to the position will require a current National Police Certificate. Townsville HHS will facilitate applicants obtaining the above check.

Generous remuneration package value up to $106,369 p.a. comprising salary range of $2777.80 to $3562.90 p.f. (Nurse Grade 5), 17.5% leave loading, 12.75 % employer contribution to superannuation. Other employment benefits may include: professional development, salary sacrificing options, shift and locality allowances, corporate discounts, wellness programs and the EAP.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.
  • Knowledge of legal and professional responsibilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with the multidisciplinary team, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks.
  • High standard of written and oral communication skills within the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families.
  • Ability to use or learn to use information systems appropriate to the position.
  • Ability to provide clinical education and support and demonstrate own ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to demonstrate competency as outlined in the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice.
