Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Service (ATODS) provide a range of services including intake and assessment, outpatient (ambulatory) withdrawal, opiate substitution program, Diversionary and Recovery Team (DART), counselling and assessment for youth and adults, health promotion, needle and syringe program and culturally appropriate support and stakeholder engagement ATODS require the services of a suitability qualified Clinical Nurse to provide specialised clinical treatment to individual clients and their families.
The Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs Services are a section of the Mental Health Service Group.
Services provided by ATDOS include:
- Specialised clinical treatment to individual clients and their families.
- Expert consultation on the management of alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues in other primary health care settings.
- Development and delivery of health promotion, screening and early intervention strategies related to substance use in all sectors of the community.
- Provision of workforce development, education and training opportunities to government and non-government agencies.
The role
- Undertake routine nursing tasks within well established clinical protocols. As experience builds, apply increasingly independent clinical judgement to more complex clinical decision making under the clinical practice supervision or professional guidance of a more senior clinician within the Withdrawal / Opioid Substitution Program context.
- Provide input in the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within the withdrawal service and the broader alcohol, tobacco and other drugs area.
- Participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve client care.
- Demonstrate a sound level of knowledge, expertise and skill in the clinical effects and problems associated with the use of alcohol and other drugs users: and ability to assess, plan and deliver alcohol and other drug treatment services in the context of currently accepted programs for those undergoing withdrawal and OSP induction.
Mandatory Requirements
Mandatory: Diploma of Nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
Highly Desirable:
- Credentialed status (or willingness to undertake and complete the requirements) with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.
- Possession of or working towards a relevant post-registration and/or tertiary qualifications in mental health nursing would be well regarded
- While not mandatory, eligibility for appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 2016 would be well regarded.
Drivers Licence:This position requires the applicant to have a C Class motor vehicle licence

Employees who are permanently appointed to Queensland Health may be required to undertake a period of probation appropriate to the appointment
