The Charters Towers Health Service are seeking to recruit an experienced and client focused Assistant in Nursing.

The Assistant in Nursing assists and supports Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses in the provision of quality patient care. This requires performing of service activities and aspects of direct patient care.

The Assistant in Nursing works under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse however retains accountability for personal actions in fulfilling their role.

Role requirements? 

  • Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD): Health Care Workers in Queensland Health whose occupation poses a potential risk of exposure to blood or body fluids are required to provide evidence of vaccinations or proof that they are not susceptible (due to prior exposure to the disease and therefore have natural immunity) to the following VPD's Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella and Pertussis (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis containing vaccine) according to the Queensland Health Policy. 
  • Highly Desirable: Applicants who meet one of the following criteria are considered highly desirable:
    • Hold a relevant Certificate III in Aged Care, Health Service Assistant or equivalent, or
    • Successful completion of the first semester full-time equivalent Diploma of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies, or
    • Successful completion of the first year full-time equivalent undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies.

Salary range of $35.76 to $39.15 p.h. (Nurse Grade 1) and 12.75 % employer contribution to superannuation. Other employment benefits may include: professional development, salary sacrificing options, shift and locality allowances, corporate discounts, wellness programs and the EAP.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living and other tasks as delegated by the registered nurse/midwife.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, colleagues and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use or learn to use information systems appropriate to the position.
  • Willingness to undertake education as required by the role.

About the Charters Towers Health Service 
The Charters Towers Health Service is a 25-bed facility located in Charters Towers, Queensland, about 134km west of Townsville.

The facility, which employs 110 people within the Charters Towers region, offers a variety of services to the community including accident and emergency care, general in-patient medical, surgical, obstetric and paediatric services.
