JOB DESCRIPTION

Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) is the major provider of specialist health services in the Gippsland region, east of Melbourne. Our comprehensive range of services extends to emergency and intensive care, elective surgery, allied health, obstetrics, medical and radiation oncology at the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre, dialysis and aged care.


LRH has a number of outstanding facilities following a recent expansion. These include a cardiac catheterisation laboratory, large Emergency Department, endoscopy suites and modern and contemporary inpatient units. These complement extensive Allied Health amenities including a gym and pool. LRH is the regional provider of mental health services in Gippsland. LRH Mental Health Service operates an integrated specialist mental health program across the region and provides inpatient and community mental health care for adults, children and young people and older persons. Gippsland provides a fantastic regional lifestyle with easy access to Melbourne.


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified Mental Health Professional to join the Sale Child and Youth Mental Health Team at Latrobe Regional Hospital on a Full Time/Fixed Term from 19 March 2021 until 18 March 2022 for 80 hours per fortnight.


Reporting to the CYMHS Manager the successful applicant will play an important role in a multidisciplinary team to support children and youth experiencing mental health difficulties and high risk behaviours.


The successful applicant will be required to:



  • Provide comprehensive assessment, risk assessment and develop safety plans.

  • Undertake a range of psycho social interventions and therapies that address mental health difficulties and high risk behaviours. 

  • Support young people and their families/carers from a diverse range of backgrounds such as indigenous, LGBTIQ+ and OOHC (Out of Home Care) children.

  • Provide intake and liaise with external services.

  • Provide support and referral to external services.


To be successful in this position you will need to have:



  • Relevant clinical experience in child and youth mental health and excellent organisational skills.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to collaboratively consult and liaise with other consumers, carers, staff members and other relevant agencies

  • A strong commitment to providing consumer and family focused mental health care in a holistic manner.

  • Commitment and awareness of trauma informed practice.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external organisations.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
