Post Graduate Fellow

Department: Anatomical Pathology (including Cytopathology)

Employment Type: Fixed Term for up to 24 months (depending on the FTE of the successful candidate)

Position Summary:

We are seeking applications from a suitably qualified Post Graduate Fellow to join the St Vincent’s Hospital Anatomical Pathology Department.

Position Requirements include:

Fulfill the criteria of the RCPA QAP fellowship grant by undertaking advanced training in anatomical pathology and cytopathology, which will include a project designed to support the development and interpretation of Quality Assurance Programs. To this end, the Fellow will develop a thyroid cytology reporting audit module for the RCPA QAP, as well as work with other members of RCPA QAP cytology programme to assist in a range of activities including the development of a breast cytology module, and creation of feedback material for programme participants. Appraising and utilising digital technologies such as digital imaging and online digital feedback videos is encouraged. Fulfill specific roles within the Head and neck, Pituitary, Cytopathology teams of the Anatomical pathology department, including reporting, attendance at MDT meetings, collaborative research and development of quality assurance tools such as audits and structured reporting formats. Details available via contact person, Dr Peter Earls, who will be the supervisor of this component of the fellowship.

Provide services as a Fellow in Anatomical Pathology during normal working hours, including a mutually agreed of the proportion (up to 0.2 FTE) departmental pathology reporting load including performance and interpretation of fine-needle aspiration biopsy cytology in collaboration with anatomical pathologists and registrars, participation in Quality Assurance programs and teaching. Selection Criteria:

  • Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Possess Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist’s State Award.

  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Anatomical Pathology commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position.

  • Demonstrate commitment to teaching at speciality registrar, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels.

  • Demonstrate the provision of a patient focused, comprehensive, high quality and cost effective clinical service with knowledge and commitment to the implementation of best practice and clinical service innovation.

  • Demonstrate ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience.

  • Demonstrate ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment.

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
