Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) is the major provider of specialist health services in the Gippsland region, east of Melbourne. Our comprehensive range of services extends to emergency and intensive care, elective surgery, allied health, obstetrics, medical and radiation oncology at the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre, dialysis and aged care.


LRH has a number of outstanding facilities following a recent expansion. These include a cardiac catheterisation laboratory, large Emergency Department, endoscopy suites and modern and contemporary inpatient units. These complement extensive Allied Health amenities including a gym and pool. LRH is the regional provider of mental health services in Gippsland. LRH Mental Health Service operates an integrated specialist mental health program across the region and provides inpatient and community mental health care for adults, children and young people and older persons. Gippsland provides a fantastic regional lifestyle with easy access to Melbourne.


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified Intensivist to join the team at Latrobe Regional Hospital on a Full Time/Part Time basis.


Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer the successful applicant will play an important role in the leadership, medical management, clinical governance and provision of Specialist Intensivist Services for patients at Latrobe Regional Hospital.


The successful applicant will be required to:



  • Provide medical clinical leadership within the Critical Care Unit working in collaboration with Nurse Unit Manager (or designated Nurse in charge of the shift) to ensure safe, appropriate and person centred health care

  • Promote and encourage compliance with appropriate professional college for maintenance of professional standards programs

  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision/teaching for medical students, junior medical staff as well as other clinical staff. This will include specific and appropriate teaching and supervision for the various accredited training positions for Critical Care Services at LRH.

  • Work collaboratively with other relevant services, especially all CCU staff, Operating Theatre staff, Anaesthetists, Paediatricians, Allied Health and Nursing staff.

  • Participate actively in the monthly CCU meetings that report through the LRH governance structure. Be involved with clinical audit and other Quality Assurance activities.


 To be successful in this position you will need to have:



  • MBBS or equivalent essential

  • Fellowship with the CICM

  • Demonstrated clinical ability commensurate with that expected of a Specialist Intensivist

  • Leadership and management experience, including the development and management of staff

  • Significant experience working at a senior level in a major hospital

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the Victorian Public Hospital system

  • Budgetary knowledge and understanding of funding implications

  • Demonstrated ability to introduce and manage change

  • Demonstrable interpersonal and negotiation skills at a high level

  • Adherence to safe practice standards and policies

  • High level decision-making ability
