This is a great opportunity to play your part in providing companionship and friendship to Aged Care residents at The Salvation Army (TSA) Riverview Gardens Aged Care facility. A volunteer Lifestyle Helper is matched to a participant according to their shared interests and provides companionship and friendship to a socially isolated older person living in a residential care facility.

Personal Qualities/Attributes Required for Role
- Is reliable, trustworthy, credible and truthful and displays integrity in all dealings
- Remains calm and focused on the task at hand when faced with crises and difficult situations and maintains appropriate self-care
- Respects differences and is non-judgmental of clients, staff or other volunteers
- Actively supports agreed policies and decisions
- Encourages and cooperates with others to achieve common TSA goals
- Shows empathy for all clients and ensures that the needs of the client remains the key focus
- Listens attentively, is courteous and adapts style to clients
- Respects differences in culture, styles and views of others and respectfully provides own point of view
- Identifies and analyses client needs and respects boundaries and limits of own role and capabilities
- Prioritises and performs role and responsibilities efficiently
- Understands the impact of decisions and acts to resolve issues promptly
- Visit to meet individual needs as per care plans
- Undertake activities that are appropriate to the participant. This may include listening to music together, playing cards or board games or simply having a chat over a cup of coffee.
- Operate in a manner that promotes effective teamwork, good relationships with service providers, residents and their families
- Be prompt, courteous and respectful when interacting with residents, families and colleagues
- Visit the participant at the residential aged care facility at least once per fortnight
- Maintain regular communication with the Aged / Residential Care Facility to discuss your visits and any concerns that may arise
- Attend orientation and ongoing training as required
- Actively promote TSA in a positive manner at all times
- Monitor and rectify any health and safety concerns within the centre. Escalate issues that cannot be attended to by the Manager
- Inform staff of any personal care needed
- Report any potential health and safety concerns to Manager in a timely manner
- Complete hazard/ incident and accident form in a timely manner
- Maintain strong boundaries
- Experience in Aged/Residential Care preferred
- Previous experience working with older people in a comparable setting
- Demonstrate empathy with the elderly
- Complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process
- Criminal History (Police Check) Check required
- Complete TSA induction modules and any other training as required
- 5 - 16 hours a week, Mondays and Fridays preferred, but happy to negotiate other days if required
