Job Title: Public Information Manager (Emergency Management), COVID-19 Response Communications Team (Role until - 30 June 2021)

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Head of Digital & Social, the Public Information Manager will lead a team of public information officers to deliver and implement communications activity that supports the COVID-19 response.


  • Provide leadership and support to the team and while continuing to support the COVID-19 communications response, allowing for continued seven day a week operation and oversight.
  • Direct management of the public information teams, development of all communications products for Chief Health Officer direction changes, lead on all intergovernmental COVID support for all government departments, emergency alert liaison with EMV and running regional public information committees.
  • Work closely with the minister's office and be able to respond quickly to the issues and needs of the day. This is a high pressure environment and their work is vital in providing clear and concise information on the criticisms of the fight against the pandemic, critical up to date information on the status of the virus in Victoria and information determined as necessary to inform the public of the change in public health advice, outbreak information, exposure and testing sites and restriction updates.
  • Work as a part of the wider Branch and collaborate with department executives and other senior staff, the minister's office, relevant policy and program areas, and key external stakeholders to ensure that communication is clear, engaging, timely, and aligned to the department's strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with teams across the branch to create compelling communications and media products for a range of purposes and audiences, including speeches, media releases, media responses, fact sheets, newsletters, materials for online and social media, and communications campaigns.
  • Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
