Your new team

  • The Dermatology Unit at The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of the major Dermatology services in Australia. The unit deals with the care of complex patients with genetic, inflammatory and autoimmune skin disease.

  • The unit is the central service for all adult EB patients in Victoria.

  • Where required Dermatologic patients are hospitalised under Medical Unit II and co-managed by the Dermatology team and patients requiring infusions and injections attend 5 West Day Medical Centre.

  • The Unit has active teaching, training and clinical research programs.

  • Employment is for 8 hours per week on Thursdays and would suit someone with EB, Plastic surgery, wound management or paediatric dermatology background.

  • Working with a highly engaged medical team and will be supported to make the most of this role including research projects, development of service and transition services.

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary health care team to provide comprehensive, appropriate and timely clinical care to patients with EB.

  • Provide health advocacy and research and further development

  • Help successful transitioning of EB patients from the Royal Children’s Hospital to our service are an integral part of the role.

Your Contribution

  • You can make a difference with outstanding nursing care for patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa – sometimes known as ‘the worst disease you have never heard of’.

  • Essential skills include expert wound knowledge, compassion, ability to work well across an organisation and resilience.


  • Experience in a similar support role, ideally within a similar clinical service, or working with EB patients

  • Expert in wound care and dressings

  • Expertise with an EMR, preferably EPIC

  • Demonstrate ability to practice collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary health care team

  • Demonstrate provision of high quality patient care

  • Develop assessment, clinical reasoning, problem solving and prioritisation skills

  • High level of motivation, reliability and professional conduct

  • Advanced communication, leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work autonomously within a defined scope of practice

  • Innovative, resourceful and adaptive to change


  • Experience with clinical research

  • Very good IT skills
