The Victorian Government announced that St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne has been selected to operate one of the State’s new high-volume COVID-19 Vaccination Centres as part of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program. St Vincent’s has been at the front line of the State’s COVID-19 response since early 2020. Now, with the commencement of the vaccination program, St Vincent’s has the opportunity once again to play a leadership role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

About the Covid19 Vaccination Program

The COVID-19 Vaccination Program at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne is being run in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), to provide the approved COVID-19 Vaccine to St Vincent’s Hospital employees and the community in the North East Region of Melbourne

About the Role

We are currently seeking a number of pharmacy students to provide support and expertise to the vaccinations program at St Vincent’s Hospital staff and community clients, as well as participate in the drawing up and preparation of COVID vaccine doses. This role may involve organising and enabling the smooth coordination of vaccine syringe preparation and ensuring compliance with the recommended administration process.

This is a 6-month fixed term part-time position on a rotating roster.

To be eligible for this role you need to be a Fourth Year Pharmacy Student.

This role will is classified as a Pharmacy Student RQ9 ($20.73 per hour)

Duties (under supervision of a registered pharmacist)
  • Prepare individual vaccine doses from multi-dose vials utilising aseptic technique.
  • Labelling of vaccine syringes
  • Recording of vaccine transactions
  • Assist pharmacist in charge with other tasks as required
Skills and Qualifications
  • Currently completing a Bachelor of Pharmacy
  • Experience in laboratory or aseptic preparation work is highly desirable
  • Documented knowledge of aseptic techniques (may include relevant university grades)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Successful completion of approved COVID vaccination training package (this can be completed following successful employment & supervision is supplied in the clinic)
  • Must be proficient in the donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be competent in completing the 3-point patient identification check process.
