As the Nurse Consultant - Research, you will provide clinical nursing care for specified individual patients/clients with life-limiting and chronic conditions and provide clinical support within this specific area of practice. You may work in a variety of clinical settings and are an expert within your area and stream of practice, having a significant degree of autonomy and decision-making. The role encompasses the co-ordination of research and audit activity as directed within ACRPC which involves the facilitation of clinical trials. You will be responsible for conducting clinical trials and investigator driven trials on behalf of Aged Care, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care and liaise with various stakeholders to ensure future scientific research and the viability of the unit; assist with the identification and recruitment of potentially eligible patients for clinical trials. This may include the coordination of patient appointments, follow-up and the collection of data and specimens; monitor and interpret test results and report appropriately, whilst providing patient education pertaining to disease process and trial participation; comply with Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and governance structures in all research activities; facilitate the collection and provision of data to relevant national registers and databases as required. This role will be situated in the community, inpatient and ambulatory setting, and will provide liaison, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the research conducted and service delivery. This will involve reviewing current practices and implementing evidence based best practice in this setting.

Various practice models may be used to enact this role, including but not limited to: providing clinical trial negotiation, coordination and management in accordance with best evidence based practice; the coordination and leadership of projects and/or programs that contribute clinical expertise to improve patient/client/service outcomes; providing continuing care of patients/clients/service outcomes within the guidance of the research project Human Research Ethics Committee approval; providing clinical support to nurses and other health professionals.

Employees in this role accept accountability for their nursing practice, the outcomes of nursing practices for the specific patient/client group, the professional advice given, delegations of care made and for addressing inconsistencies between practice and policy.

You will be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and hold, or be eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.

Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check.
