Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity for a Grade 1 Physiotherapists to join our Physiotherapy Department in a full time/fixed term position.

The Physiotherapy Department is committed to promoting the highest levels of physiotherapy for our patients. In realising this goal, the department will lead and excel in research, teaching and the use of person centred evidence-based practice.

The Department provides services on all three campuses of Austin Health, across all Service areas. The department provides care across the continuum from the Emergency Department through bed-based services and ongoing ambulatory care.

The clinician employed in this position reports to the Manager of Physiotherapy and is expected to travel across campus as required and adopt a flexible approach to clinical caseload management and the provision of care during periods of planned and unplanned leave. They may be expected to participate in an after-hours roster system and adopt flexible working hours as required.

The department is focused on developing the professional body of knowledge and practice of staff (which is evidence based) in a range of areas to ensure high quality service provision. This is achieved through staff participating in ongoing training and professional development, professional supervision and performance review, research, quality improvement activities and working with undergraduate students. The department has a continuing education, student and quality improvement strategy which is developed and operationalised through senior leadership forums and committees.

Areas for Grade 1 work will include Intensive Care, Open Heart and Thoracic Surgery, HDU, General Surgical, Medical, Inpatient and Outpatient Orthopaedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Acute Stroke, Spinal, General Rehabilitation and Aged Care.

Essential Knowledge and skills:

  • A qualified physiotherapist, registered for practice in Australia by the position starting date.
  • Ability to provide physiotherapy treatment for a wide variety of clinical conditions.
  • Capacity to successfully work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Capacity to work independently.
  • Flexibility to undertake changing work roles.
  • Interpersonal skills appropriate to the role.
  • Capacity to work weekends as rostered.
  • Victorian drivers' license
Desirable but not essential:
  • At least one year’s experience working as a Physiotherapist in a public hospital
  • A sound understanding of information technology including clinical systems, applications relevant to the Management of rostering and risk management reporting or as required for the role and/or department.
  • Understanding of the health care environment.
