Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Grade 1 Speech Pathologist to join our Health Independence Program (HIP), Community Rehabilitation Service (CRS).

This is a full time fix term (12 months) backfill position.

Details of position:

The Grade 1 Speech pathologist will work as a member of the HIP Community Rehabilitation Services Team; an interdisciplinary team of allied health professionals providing therapy to clients receiving home based and centre based services. The work will involve speech pathology assessment and management of clients at home, in the centre or in the community to optimise or maintain independence and functional capacity.

To be successful in this role you must:

  • Hold an approved degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent and be eligible for practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia
  • Show evidence of a current Victorian Driver’s Licence and be willing to drive for work related activities.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of health, disability, adjustment issues and group dynamics for a diverse group of rehabilitation clients, their families and significant others.
  • Have advanced written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clients, their families, the clinical team and other hospital and community-based health professionals.
  • Demonstrated organisational ability in time and caseload management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, flexibly and conjointly with staff from other disciplines as part of a client focussed interdisciplinary rehabilitation team working in the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and implement comprehensive client case management, including complex problem-solving skills, client advocacy and liaison.
  • Demonstrated commitment to client focus and interdisciplinary approach to service provision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to refer clients to community resources.
  • A commitment to professional development and evidence-based practice.
  • Client Centred approach to service delivery
  • High level of experience and competent computer skills in MS Office applications including MS Excel and Powerpoint
  • Commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety
  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of complex situations
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement or redesign
  • Ability to work as part a dynamic team, which works effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to service improvement projects
  • Experience in Speech Pathology intervention in the area of adult rehabilitation, e.g. Neurological and Aged Care Rehabilitation is preferred.
