The Role

An opportunity has become available for two Allied Health Assistants (Social Work) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to over 550,000 people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

  • Provide a defined range of screening assessments
  • Under the direction of social workers perform tasks including:
  • Assist patients and their families with completion of forms and paperwork
  • Assist patients and their families to access hospital services
  • Liaise with external providers including aged care facilities, NDIS, community and government services
  • Assist social worker with case management tasks
  • Provide basic education on a defined range of topics to patients
About you

To be successful in this position you will require:
  • While not mandatory, a relevant qualification such as the below would be well regarded:
  • Certificate III in Health Services Assisting
  • Certificate III in Health Administration
  • Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance or equivalent
  • Certificate III in Community Services Work, Aged Care, Disabilities or similar
  • While not mandatory, previous experience in a hospital environment or relevant community or aged care setting would be highly regarded
  • While not mandatory, high level literacy and numeracy skills would be well regarded
  • Working with children check
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed

  • Permanent part time (two positions, 1 x position in Intensive Care and Newborn Care Units, 1 x position in Residential Aged Care Facility Placement Support, both 38 hrs per fortnight)
  • Base salary ranging from $29.06 - $30.36 per hour

The Social Work Service is active in student education and training, providing continuing professional education and training, clinical supervision and research. The Social Work Service actively encourages and supports the development of a range of social work clinical specialities such as child protection, women's, newborn and children, trauma, rehabilitation, aged care, cancer care, grief and bereavement, multicultural health and domestic and family violence (DFV).

The Social Work Assistant may work with Social Workers in clinical areas such as Cancer Services, the Intensive Care Unit, Paediatrics and Newborn Care, Rehabilitation, and Residential Aged Care Facility Placement Support Team. The Social Work Service is based across Southport and Robina.
