The Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and interested professional to join the important ministry of Pastoral Care. We are seeking to appoint a Part Time Pastoral Care Practitioner for St Vincent's Private Hospital.

As an integral part of our health care team, our Pastoral Care service offers a unique service that accompanies patients, their families, friends and staff as they express their hopes, fears, anxieties and concerns during their stay or association with our facilities and services. Pastoral Care works in close association with Chaplaincy to support the spiritual and emotional needs of our patients, their family and friends.

Essential Criteria:

  • Background and qualifications in either pastoral care (eg Clinical Pastoral Education), theology, pastoral counselling, psychology, chaplaincy, religious education or equivalent
  • Commitment to ethical practice consistent with the policies of St Vincent's Health Australia in continuing the mission of the Sisters of Charity and the Code of Ethical Standards for Catholic Health and Aged Care Services.
  • Understanding and commitment to the Catholic ethos of the organisation.
  • Willingness to work within a 7 day roster system including occasional weekend responsibilities.
  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Mission and Values of the Sisters of Charity and St Vincent's Health Australia under the stewardship of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Highly advantageous is experience in pastoral care in a healthcare environment.
  • Minimum 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent
  • Preferred but not essential being a Eucharistic Minister in the Catholic tradition.
