The Early in Life Mental Health Services (ELMHS) provides assessment and treatment for infants, children, adolescents, young people and their families. We work with the 0-25 age range in the Southern Region. We provide a comprehensive assessment service and a range of treatment options including inpatient treatment in times of crisis, community (outpatient) treatment, group programs, family therapy and specialist services. We offer a range of therapeutic interventions and systemic interventions for both the client, family and service system.


About the Team


Department of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (DPED) Clinical Psychologist 0.33EFT within the Paediatric Consultation Liaison Psychiatry team


The Paediatric Consultation Liaison (CL) Psychiatry team is a specialist clinical mental health team providing consultation and liaison services to paediatric medical wards within Monash Health for young people aged between the 0 - 18 age range and the systems of care around them. The Clinical Psychology position within the DPED team sits within the Paediatric Consultation Liaison Psychiatry team, which is a part of the broader Early in Life Mental Health Service (ELMHS) enabling accessibility for young people when they need ongoing mental health treatment options after their medical admission.


DPED provides a range of services for children, young people and families who have been diagnosed with diabetes or with an endocrine issue. DPED provides a service for both medical inpatients and outpatients, predominantly at Monash Medical Centre and the Monash Children’s Hospital in Clayton. Clinics within DPED include the Paediatric Outpatients service (0-15 years), Young adults Diabetes Service (15-25 years), and the High Risk Intervention Diabetes Clinic. The DPED team is comprised of a range of medical and allied health professionals who provide long term care, support and treatment for young people from their first diagnosis up until they graduate into the adult medical system of care.
There is a 0.33 eft role available for a clinical psychologist within this team. The clinical psychologist provides specialist mental health services such as triaging all referrals, assessment, treatment and ongoing intervention for the patients and families of the DPED service. The core role of the DPED clinical psychologist is to provide specialised mental health consultation to the multidisciplinary team. The clinical psychologist assists young patients with managing adjustment to their diagnosis, stress, anxiety, phobias, depression, body image or eating problems, relationship difficulties within the family system, school refusal or difficulties adjusting to the diabetes regimen. This is an identified clinical psychologist role.


We are looking for someone with:


The role of the Senior Clinical Psychologist will suit you if you are interested in working alongside the diabetes and endocrinology team as well as senior mental health clinicians and the consultant psychiatrist. This role is a highly autonomous mental health role which requires the provision of timely intervention and a high level of organisation. You will need to have the capacity to provide systemic containment, education and support predominantly to medical systems of care. Excellent engagement and therapeutic skills are a must.


Experience in the identification and management of a range of mental health issues including eating disorders, somatic symptoms, anxiety, phobias, depression, psychosis and risk issues including suicidal Ideation and self harm is necessary.
