JOB DESCRIPTION

To support the transition of maternity services back to Bentley in 2021, the key midwifery leadership position of Staff Development Midwife will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of contemporary midwifery practices to mothers and their families.

Applicants should be eligible for registration in the category of Registered Midwife by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and have demonstrated significant clinical knowledge, and experience in the delivery of nursing/midwifery care.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate high level interpersonal and negotiation skills and be able to demonstrate commitment to self-development and the review and development of both staff and policies.

This is a Fixed Term Full Time appointment for 12 months, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

Position Profile: The Staff Development Midwife is responsible for education and training in relation to clinical practices and as part of the multidisciplinary team plans, implements and evaluates orientation, education and training at the ward or unit level. The successful applicant will facilitate and promote patient safety and quality of care and work collaboratively to ensure service is delivered in accordance with health service policy and standards. This position practices within their scope of practice considerate of the Nursing and Midwifery Board’s Nursing Practice Decision Flowchart.

Area Profile: Bentley Health Service (BHS) is a specialist hospital located 11km from the Perth CBD and forms part of the Royal Perth Bentley Group. BHS provides quality healthcare to the community, specialising in the delivery of mental health care, aged care services, obstetrics, and rehabilitation.

Other Conditions: WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. Referees may also be asked to comment on an applicant’s integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. Both of these options remain valid for a period of six (6) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
