The Townsville Hospital and Health Service provides a number of world-class services to the community.

Townsville University Hospital is the largest facility within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS) geographic area. Townsville University Hospital is located in the suburb of Douglas and has Community Health Campuses' in Kirwan, North Ward, Cambridge Street in Vincent and Palmerston Street in Vincent. Townsville University Hospital also includes Parklands Aged Care in Kirwan.

The role

Provide quality person-centred care in a friendly and helpful manner; communicate clearly and confidently with patients, members of the public and departmental staff both person and over the telephone whilst adhering to Queensland Health guidelines on confidentiality.

Build good relationships with patients, their families and work colleagues by using strong communication and negotiation skills and deliver a service that meets their needs with adherence to policy and standards.

Respond to and resolve non-clinical and general frontline enquiries by providing accurate and timely information to support patients and staff within scope of role and in line with relevant procedures.

Some roles within Queensland Health are designated as Vaccination Preventable Disease (VPD) risk roles. This is a VPD risk role. 

Mandatory requirements

  • Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
  • Highly Desirable: Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position would be well regarded.
  • Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster.
  • Must be able to obtain and then maintain an annual competency in Advanced Life Support as per Townsville Hospital and Health Service policy Life Support Training and Assessment -THSDCLI040151v6 (http://qheps.health.qld.gov.au/tville/policies/thsdcli/thsdcli040151.pdf)
  • It is an expectation that Temporary Capacity Ward (TCW) staff will undertake secondments and redeployments to the Emergency Department.
