Our client is a growing boutique firm in Newcastle CBD with an award- winning team who are recognised experts in all areas of health and relationship law including medical, family and elder law, estate planning, aged care and conveyancing. A special focus of the firm is disputes and complex matters including estate management, estate litigation including family provision, questions regarding testamentary capacity, undue influence and elder abuse.

Their mission is to be a progressive law firm that inspires and facilitates improvement to the quality of services and relationships experienced within the communities that they serve.

They now have a position available for a Paralegal, Health Law to join them on a maternity leave contract.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Health Law and supporting a team of three lawyers, you will work within the practice area as directed to support business objectives. You will perform substantive and procedural routine duties of legal work with the knowledge of legal concepts to assist and simplify the work of the lawyers. You will take part in investigative cases to filter difficult issues and compile relevant information to support of the work of the assigned lawyer. This role has varied work, every day will see you exposed to something new!

You will also assist lawyers in their;

  • preparation for cases by carrying out research
  • reading related articles and evaluating judicial decisions taken on such cases
  • Communication with stakeholders including barristers, legal practitioners, clients and witnesses, and other professional service provider

About you

Ideally, you are studying towards or have gained admission as a solicitor, we expect you have a real interest in establishing a career path in this field and ideally are wanting to have a career as a Paralegal.

  • You are an experienced Paralegal with a background in Health Law, Personal Injury or Medical Negligence.
  • Your communication skills are great, you will be dealing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • You have strong interpersonal skills
  • You have excellent time management skills
