Position Title: Occupational Therapist (Dementia Advisory Service)
Employment Type: Maximum term, Part Time Until June 2022
Hours per week: 16 hours
Position Grade: Level 3
Salary: $100,451 - $103,814 (Pro rata)

Position Summary:
A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to be able to:

  • Provide Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment for clients referred to the Dementia Advisory Service under CHSP.
  • Develop and foster relationships with key referrers to CHSP Dementia Advisory specialist support service, internal and external to the organisation, to ensure maximum utilization of the service.
  • Provide clinical supervision to junior staff and students as required
  • Provide clinical advice to the Aged Care Community teams
  • Represent and promote the specialist role of the occupational therapy, including service planning and development.
  • Facilitate education and advocacy for Community Aged Care services within St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney (SVHNS)
The dementia advisory service supports older adults, their carers and families living in community to manage the symptoms of dementia and maximize client’s independence to enable them to remain living in their own homes.

This position will be required to deliver a specialist Occupational Therapy service that provides individual assessments, specific interventions and evaluations as per the client’s needs.

This position will be required to deliver a service which comprises of a mix of direct service delivery, tailored support and expert advice. The position also needs to provide support to other service providers to meet support them to meet the specialised needs of those clients through awareness raising, information sharing and education.

In collaboration with the Aged Care NUM and Aged Care Service Manager, this position is will be responsible for establishing a robust Model of Care for the SVHS CHSP Dementia Advisory Service with consideration to the CHSP guidelines, client needs and feasibility of service provision within the context of existing resources.

Selection Criteria
  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
  • Tertiary Qualification in Occupational Therapy and AHPRA Occupational Therapy registration.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with minimal direct supervision and extensive experience in the provision of clinical supervision and leadership to Occupational Therapists, support staff and students.
  • To demonstrate ability to carry out specialist assessment, clinical reasoning skills and evidence based goal orientated interventions for older adults with dementia with extensive clinical experience in home visits and community.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to apply advanced clinical reasoning skills and independent professional judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality initiatives and service evaluation processes.
  • Current Class C Driver's Licence.
