Lourdes Hospital and Community Health Service (Lourdes) is a third schedule, not-for-profit teaching hospital funded by NSW Ministry of Health and Managed by Catholic Healthcare. Lourdes has a long history of providing excellent care to the Dubbo and greater region.

An opportunity currently exists for a Dementia Counsellor to join our dedicated team on a Temporary Part-Time basis until December 2021.

Selection Criteria:

  • At least 5 years post registration experience and knowledge in providing dementia services to carers and individuals with dementia.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the issues that confront carers of people with dementia in a rural setting.
  • Demonstrated counselling skills with assessment and intervention experience, as well as the capacity to apply specific counselling models, including group work principles to improve independent coping skills.
  • Proven capacity to initiate and develop projects that reflect evidence-based practice and client outcomes.
  • An understanding of the available services for people with dementia and their carers.
  • Proficient in the use of computers for MS Office applications, email and health records and data collection.
  • Current drivers’ license.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a nursing or allied health field and current registration with AHPRA.


  • Coordination of carer support groups.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse groups.
  • Membership of Dementia Australia or other aged care peak body
