Position Summary:

The COVID-vac group is responsible for managing and coordinating the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccination to the state of Victoria. Operating as a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, the group will work closely with key internal and external stakeholders to deliver an effective and efficient immunisation campaign.

The Project Officer (Safety) will undertake a broad range of tasks and activities, with an epidemiological focus, that support and contribute to immunisation safety activities. Work will be directed by the Manager, Vaccine Safety (clinical) or Principal Adviser.


  • Reporting to the Senior Project Officer and Principal Epidemiologist, support the delivery of the full life project tasks across the Safety and AEFI portfolio to meet departmental and branch objectives.
  • Undertake or provide support to epidemiological investigations and analyses supporting an effective, efficient and safe COVID vaccination program
  • Where responsible for overseeing, monitoring or delivering projects, ensure they are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation and government regulations and guidelines.
  • Deliver required activities of projects or sub projects and be responsible for the successful delivery and completion of the projects/sub projects within the timeline parameters. Activities may include development of projects, preparation of progress reports, coordination and facilitation of meetings with team members and other stakeholders within and external to COVID-vac.
  • Liaise with reporting and technical teams to support data collection and analysis, including preparation of briefs and presentations to a broad range of stakeholders
  • Maintain situational awareness of the evolving epidemiological issues relevant to the COVID-19 vaccine safety space. 
  • Attend meetings as a representative of the team and ensure appropriate communication and recording of meeting outcomes
  • Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the deparment's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
