About the facility


Barwon Medical Imaging (BMI) provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic services including X-Ray, OPG, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Angiography, Mammography, and Nuclear Medicine. These are performed by a team of highly skilled radiologists, radiographers, sonographers, nuclear medicine technologists, nurses and support staff who ensure that all patients have access to quality services.


Barwon Medical Imaging provides services at the following locations:



  • The Geelong Hospital, Bellerine Street, Geelong

  • Geelong Private Hospital, Corner of Bellerine & Ryrie Streets, Geelong

  • The McKellar Centre, 45-95 Ballarat Road, North Geelong

  • Torquay Community Health Centre, 100 Surfcoast Highway, Torquay

  • Barwon Health North, 155 Princes Highway Norlane


At Barwon Health, Ultrasound services are provided at University Hospital Geelong, Geelong Private Hospital and the McKellar Centre. Plans are well underway to provide a new dedicated, standalone ultrasound department within the newly developed Baxter Wing at University Hospital Geelong.


About the role


Barwon Health is recruiting for a first year Radiology Registrar for 2022. As the Radiology Registrar you will ensure the provision of high quality, timely, appropriate medical imaging services as part of Barwon Health under consultant radiologist supervision. You will fulfil the RANZCR requirements for radiology training and complete the assessments required at the various stages of training as per the RANZCR radio-diagnosis training program curriculum.


Duties for the role include but are not limited to:



  • Performing and reporting the range of radiological procedures practised within the Department, i.e. x-ray, fluoroscopy, general and obstetric ultrasound, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine and interventional procedures within your scope of expertise and ability, and other commonly performed radiological diagnostic tests. This is the key role of the Medical Imaging department and is carried out under the supervision of a consultant radiologist

  • Participating in the roster for afterhours and on call radiology services

  • Attending clinical-radiological meetings and multidisciplinary meetings to provide appropriate radiological expertise and expert opinion

  • Teaching more junior radiology registrars, junior doctors and medical students to provide appropriate education in radiology for different groups within Barwon Health
