Position Summary:

The Communications & Media Branch leads the delivery of strategic communications and media relations services in line with the department's Strategic Plan, including supporting the delivery of major government policy and program commitments, as well as specialist emergency management communications.

Staff within the Branch provide professional advice, strategic counsel, and expert assistance on communications strategy; stakeholder engagement, internal and external communications, and change management; advertising campaign management; graphic design and publishing; social media and digital engagement; issues & crisis management; and event coordination.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as a part of the wider Branch and collaborate with department executives and other senior staff, the minister's office, relevant policy and program areas, and key external stakeholders to ensure that communication is clear, engaging, timely, and aligned to the department's strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with teams across the branch to create compelling communications and media products for a range of purposes and audiences, including speeches, media releases, media responses, fact sheets, newsletters, materials for online and social media, and communications campaigns.
  • There may be requirements to provide support to other teams across the Branch as and when required, including participating in out of hours media and emergency rosters, providing support for public emergencies, large-scale communications campaigns and other high priority projects, to contribute the effective management of work across the Branch and department.
  • Work closely with the minister's office, program areas and be able to respond quickly to the issues and needs of the day.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the department, and facilitate the flow of information across the department and to improve data and information capture, sharing and quality.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures
