About Monash Health Oncology


Monash Health Oncology has a large Clinical Trials Unit and utilizes the Purpose Build State of the Art Clinical Trials Unit at the MHTP to implement new and exciting clinical trial opportunities for our Cancer patients. Our Clinical Trials Unit currently runs up to 130 clinical trials in all aspects of medical oncology, , and which offers patient-centric care to patients with complex needs. The unit is divided into 5 streams, Early Phase, Gi, GU, Breast/Gynae and Lung/other which have their own trial portfolio. These are dynamic and fast-paced teams, working in an ever-evolving developmental area of both targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and chemotherapy. A strong collaboration between the unit, the trial sponsors, and Monash Health is required in planning, coordinating and implementing trials to ensure the best possible care for trial patients.


About the Role


This Research Officer will provide a variety of high quality research and administrative services to support a project focused on routine real-time collection of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) to enhance point-of-care adoption of clinical pathways and referrals in the oncology department of Monash Health. This project utilises an online PROMs/PREMs patient IT interface to inform clinicians of patients’ individual needs in real time. Automating collection of PROMs and PREMs will provide real-time feedback to health professionals about the clinical and supportive care needs of their patients, allowing them to address needs as they arise. In addition, this will provide population level data that can be used for quality improvement initiatives and future health service planning.


The PROMs/PREMs system utilised in this project has been developed and successfully piloted with English-speaking patient participants in association with both in-person and telehealth consultations at Monash Health. Building on this experience, the Research Officer will assist with refinement, adaptation, expansion and evaluation of the system within Monash Health oncology clinics, with a focus on ensuring inclusion of patient participants who speak languages other than English and supporting remote patient participation via telehealth.
