Catering Assistants work closely with the Chefs within our village commercial kitchens, ensuring the smooth operation of our commercial kitchen, enabling our aged care residents to enjoy a variety of fresh, nutritious meals on a daily basis.

You will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the Chef load the meals into the Burlodge hot boxes, each dish labelled with the correct resident name
  • Delivering meals in the Burlodge to the servery on each floor, plugging in the machine to keep the meals warm, and noting on the report the time the Burlodge was delivered
  • Collecting the Burlodges from each floor and returning them to the kitchen once the meal service has concluded
  • Reviewing the stock levels in the fridges that are located on each floor and replenishing supplies such as juice, milk, etc on a daily basis
  • Preparing the tea and coffee trolleys and delivering a fully-loaded trolley to each floor for morning tea every day
  • Using the kitchen commercial dishwashers, thoroughly clean all plates, dishes, cutlery and glasses
  • Cleaning the servery on each floor and restocking with glasses, cups, saucers and dishes that belong on that floor
  • Cleaning the kitchen equipment within the dining room on each floor (fridge, microwave, toaster, etc)
  • Maintaining the coffee machines on each floor (and lobby) in good working order (clean, full of milk, etc)
  • Deep cleaning sections of the commercial kitchen as per the cleaning schedule, such as fridges, trolleys, shelves, servery, storage areas, etc)
  • Deep cleaning sections of the commercial kitchen to close for the day such as benches, sinks, dishwashers, floors, sanitize the kitchen, take used tea towels to the laundry
  • Completing the Daily Kitchen Report, indicating the time activities are completed, temperatures where food is stored, etc, and sign off
  • Creating a positive work environment, demonstrating the Greengate values in your daily actions
  • Engaging with all team members in a positive and respectful manner, welcoming a culturally diverse team and maintaining a cohesive team spirit
  • Working in a safe manner to protect yourself, your colleagues and residents. Diligently following all WHS policies and procedures, being vigilant for risk and promptly reporting all hazards

Successful candidates possess the following:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a commercial kitchen environment
  • Good understanding of food safety practices, kitchen cleanliness and hygiene
  • Good communication skills, confident both speaking and reading English
  • Hard-working, able to follow directions and work with minimal supervision
  • Physically capable of performing a role where you are standing / walking for up to 8 hours
  • Physically capable of lifting at least 5kg and pushing trolleys / Burlodges up to 15kg
  • Minimum height of 165cm to be able to see over the top of a Burlodge while safely moving it
  • Comfortable working within a diverse team environment, assisting colleagues where necessary
  • Genuine interest in working within the aged care environment
  • Current Police Check Certificate (valid within last 12 months)
  • Current Influenza Vaccination Certificate (valid within last 12 months)
