  • We are recruiting for a new position as Clinical Epidemiologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

  • Build capacity for enhanced data collection to manage surge demand and managing a major contact trace of staff and patients exposed to a transmissible pathogen such as COVID-19.

Your new team

  • Work closely with the Head of the Infection Prevention and Surveillance Service (IPSS) to define relevant data streams and informative outcomes to support objectives of continuous safety and quality improvement.

  • The position will report to the Head of the Infection Prevention and Surveillance Service and the Head of the Victorian Infectious Diseases Service.

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Lead core data collection, management, analysis and reporting to support infection prevention across RMH. Activities will include surveillance of healthcare associated infections, monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) and evaluation of interventions

  • Use your initiative to observe current practice and review data in order to pose questions that should be addressed

  • Assist in producing reports required by various stakeholders including subcommittees, the RMH board, VICNISS, Worksafe and the DHHS and support the administration of staff vaccination and training programs. They will also assist in writing and submitting journal manuscripts to present relevant analyses of relevant data.

  • Present your data and findings in a way that can be understood by all stakeholders with varying epidemiological understanding

  • Contribute to the teams to which you belong eg the Infection Prevention and Surveillance Service and the Victorian Infectious Diseases Service

Your Contribution

  • You are an experienced epidemiologist with expertise in health related fields who can lead a program to improve data collection, management and reporting to improve practice within The Royal Melbourne Hospital

  • Facilitate mapping of infection trends, identification of anomalies and sharpen focus on specific areas (wards, units). This objective requires collation, analysis and reporting of information that is fit for purpose to guide decision making about the need for and nature of targeted interventions to reduce infection spread.

  • Synthesise all available sources of clinical data and use them in real time to identify emerging risks and challenges in patient care, health workforce safety and service delivery.
