Your role



To lead the Research Ethics and Governance team to support and drive excellence in research at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.



Your new team



  • We are a team working together to provide outstanding guidance, advocacy and support to researchers and research participants at the RMH and beyond, recognising the pivotal importance of clinical research in providing early access to innovative treatments and interventions for our patients and improving the overall standard of health care RMH provides through the uptake of evidence into best practice.

  • We provide leadership and advice in all aspects of research including ethics, governance, financial management and grants, intellectual property, research agreements and collaborative research to support the provision of high quality clinical research services to our patients.

  • You will help the RMH to achieve and sustain research excellence, delivering high quality care through best practice clinical research.

  • In return, you will be supported by a highly committed and dedicated research management team, constantly looking for better ways to support and encourage our researchers, through the provision of streamlined, responsible and timely ethics and governance review of their research, and our patients, and the wider community, through the delivery of world class health care available only through high quality clinical research.


Your success in this role, will be in your ability to



  • Provide leadership, guidance and expert advice to the Office for Research team, the Human Research Ethics Committee and researchers throughout the RMH.

  • Work closely with key stakeholders within and external to the RMH to promote and support research excellence at the RMH

  • Ensure MH research KPIs are met and report regularly to Director of Research and Chief Executive, including accreditation standards.

  • Drive service improvement and efficiency initiatives across RMH and in collaboration with research partners across Victoria and Australia/


Your contribution



  • PhD or equivalent in Health Sciences or related field.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide successful leadership in research governance and ethics.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders within and external to RMH to build effective teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to build effective inter-organisational networks to facilitate successful State and Australia-wide research governance and ethics initiatives.

  • Strong conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills to enable the identification of issues, analysis of options and the judgement to determine appropriate courses of action for achieving long-range organisational goals.

  • Ability to create and lead a high-performance team and align it with the overall organisational and portfolio strategy.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, interpersonal, influential and presentation skills.
