JOB DESCRIPTION

Located on the beautiful Great South Coast, South West Healthcare offers a comprehensive range of medical, surgical and psychiatric services. The organisation serves a catchment in excess of 110,000 and comprises of a total of 282 beds and an extensive range of primary and community services. Warrnambool boasts excellent sporting, education (pre-school to university), social and cultural facilities. The city’s award winning foreshore promenade is a 5.7km path that stretches from the breakwater along the coastline to the Hopkins River mouth.

Applications are sought for the HMO/Registrar Emergency Department (Diploma of Emergency Medicine) at South West Healthcare (SWH) commencing August 2021 until February 2022.

The HMO/Registrar plays a key role in the provision of emergency medicine services to patients presenting to SWH's Emergency Department (ED). The positions will assist in the coordination of clinical activities both within and between the ED and other departments/services within SWH. The HMO will closely liaise with the Director of ED, Specialist ED Consultants and GP Supervisors and will involve supervision of less experienced clinical staff and some formal and opportunistic teaching.

We are a growing health care facility and the Victoria Government has committed to providing us growth funding to support our clinical facilities which includes the development of a redesigned state of the art Emergency Department to meet the future needs of the local community.

Applicants are required to be enrolled, or accepted, in an accredited General Practice training program or hold current registration as a GP and must demonstrate a commitment to Rural Generalist training.

Who we are

South West Healthcare is a fully integrated facility with a total of 282 beds (216 acute, 36 aged care and 30 mental health). Warrnambool Campus (212 beds) provides acute, rehabilitation and mental health care, together with extensive outpatient and community services. Wards include medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, six bed critical care unit, dialysis, emergency, inpatient psychiatry, GEM and rehabilitation. There are three fully equipped operating theatres and a separate endoscopy suite.

Our hospital is considered one of the most modern and technologically advanced health services in regional Australia. This enables us to provide world best-practice treatment, care and support to a catchment population of 110,000 spread across 10,323 square kilometres. SWH has approximately 16,000 admissions and over 26,500 emergency department attendances per year.
