Career Medical Officer - Emergency Department

The Emergency Department Career Medical Officer is an important clinical leadership role. Out of hours, you are expected to run the ED in partnership with the nursing team leader. We have a dynamic group of clinicians who deliver high quality emergency care. There are many opportunities for ongoing education and training including simulation within the ED. Belmont Hospital is a supportive and thoughtful place to work where you have the opportunity to do a great job every day. 

You will have high level interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team environment. You are committed to fostering excellent working relationships with fellow staff and patients and to the supervision and teaching of junior medical staff.

Belmont Hospital is a district hospital loved and valued by the Lake Macquarie community. The Emergency Department sees approximately 28000 patients per year with an exposure to a broad spectrum of emergency medicine cases. Six thousand patients arrive by ambulance and 26% are over the age of 70 years, both living at home and in Residential Aged Care Facilities. The hospital also has a midwifery led birthing services and many families return to Belmont for Emergency Care. With over 100 acute hospital beds, patients are admitted under General Medicine, Cardiology, Geriatrics and General Surgery. Sub-speciality care requires transfer to John Hunter Hospital. 

Job share arrangements will be considered.
