Consumer Peer Support Worker

Part time fixed term contract for 12 months

This position will be up to 7 days per fortnight

The days are in standard business hours (Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 5.00pm) and are negotiated on commencement.

We are also happy to negotiate a reduced number of hours across TWO applicants, this will be discussed at interview stage.

Your new team

These positions works alongside existing and established PSW team made up of both consumer and carer peer support workers. This team is supported by an experienced peer coordinator.

The PSW and the Peer Coordinator work alongside the broader interdisciplinary team (occupational therapists, social workers, nurses, doctors, psychologists, allied health assistants etc.) as well as a range of support staff. This team reports to the Program Manager's of NPU.

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

Provide peer support and information to consumers in an adult acute inpatient unit. The work will focus on support for consumers during their admission and for a small number for a short period following discharge from the acute inpatient unit to a range of other supports in the community.

Be part of a dynamic work group of PSW, Peer Coordinators and broader team including clinical and support staff.

Be active collaborators in developing, reviewing and providing information resources for consumers and their families and carers

Your contribution

A lived / living experience of mental ill-health and treatment within a mental health service

Ability to draw on your own lived / living experience in working alongside consumers

Awareness of, and commitment to, your wellbeing and self-care as it relates to your work

Strong interpersonal skills

Empathic and compassionate approach

Understanding of peer support and recovery principles

Ability to work independently in an organised manner and collectively alongside your peer support work group, while also taking direction for daily activities where required
