Medical Oncology Advanced Trainee or Registrar

Temporary Full-Time (9 months)


About the Role
The main role of Medical Oncology Trainee is to provide clinical care to medical oncology inpatients and outpatients under the supervision of the attending medical oncologists. The Trainee will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise junior medical officers and medical students. It is also expected that the Advanced Trainee participates in the clinical meetings and teaching and be subject to training and performance reviews.

The position is suitable for a medical oncology trainee or a medical basic physician trainee with at least 4 years post graduate experience. If the applicant has passed the FRACP examination, the position may be retrospectively accredited by the Royal Australian College of physicians. The position is available from the 31st May 2021 until 4th February 2022. Pending on the candidate, there is the opportunity to continue training in 2022 via the NSW centralised network interviews.

Duties (include but not limited to)

  • Attend and participate in outpatient clinics
  • Care for oncology inpatients including emergency admissions and consults
  • Be on-call as stipulated by department
  • Perform weekend ward rounds as stipulated by department
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and other clinical meetings
  • Participate in training courses
  • Be involved in departmental quality assurance activities
  • Supervise JMOs and medical students
  • Carry out research as advised by a consultant
  • Attend performance appraisals
  • Take part in Hospital on-call and after hours responsibilities as stipulated
  • Perform other duties required relevant to and consistent with the classification.

Skills and Experience (include but not limited to)

Essential:

  • Qualifications: MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Clinical - Basic clinical experience as a medical officer.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under supervision and have an understanding of their limitations
  • Ability to work proficiently as a member of a multidisciplinary team during periods of high demand and activity in an organised manner.

Desirable:

  • Completion of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians written and clinical examinations and the requirements of PREP Basic Training or equivalent (completed or working towards)
  • Experience in Medical Oncology
