Senior Manager

Community Services – Aged Care – Disability – Creative Industries

Sound like a broad and complex role? You’re right it is, but if your heart is in delivering community services to improve wellbeing and you happen to be a fan of hip hop, or you’re into gaming, then this just might be the best job you have ever had.

This role connects across our community in a way that none other does, bringing together creativity and the complex needs of our clients across a diverse range of services, in a fun and interesting way.

In this role you will lead the work of Council in:

  • Creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to improve their health and wellbeing
  • Encouraging community participation, engagement and social inclusion
  • Connecting youth through music and creative endeavour

As an energetic thinker with a passion for new ideas and making things happen, you will build and lead an effective team that works collaboratively towards its goals. No two days are the same in this role. The sort of things you will do include:

  • Maintain awareness of regional trends, developments and sector changes and manage the business closely to address the need for change and to seize upon community service delivery opportunities for our community.
  • Contribute to the delivery of whole-organisation projects, particularly as they relate to community services and creative industries, aligned to our long term strategies.
  • Develop and deliver dynamic business plans and systems of work that are customer centric and drive the achievement of high quality community outcomes.
  • Implement internal controls that ensure transparent and defensible decision-making, and that can hold up to public enquiry.

Ideally you will be someone who has some runs on the board across a range of community service functions. In addition we want you to bring:

  • Commitment to our foundation principles of ‘full disclosure’ and ‘do no harm’
  • Strong drive and self-motivation with a results driven mindset
  • Great leadership skills
  • Fantastic problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A desire to approach all aspects of your work with a service ethos
  • An ability to be self reflective
  • Commitment to sharing collective responsibility for all aspects of the business
  • Be willing to complete a criminal record check and other DCIS clearance checks.

What about flexibility of work?– You need to drop off or pick up your kids? Cool. You need to work from home because a tradie is coming between 8am-5pm? That’s all ok. And sometimes you will need to stay back during the evening or come in on the weekend because that is what our community needs. We’re all about working collaboratively to get things done.

We are not your average council. The City of Playford is one of the fastest growing cities in Australia. We are a city of contrasts, with busy, urbanised areas, rural townships and natural open spaces. We are experiencing intense residential growth and we have many members of our community seeking employment and living with significant social disadvantage.

If you really want to make a difference in people’s lives then you will fit right in.
