What you'll be doing

To provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the public health organisation.

The O&G SRMO is responsible for the initial assessment of patients and ongoing day to day management under the direction of the appropriate attending medical officer who has legal responsibility for the patient. The O&G SRMO has a responsibility for ensuring appropriate communication and documentation takes place as well as a responsibility for the training and supervision of junior medical staff.
 
 
Where you'll be working

Nepean Hospital is a major tertiary referral hospital for NBMLHD and, beyond that, provides high-level inpatient and outpatient services for people of all ages. Inpatient services generally have the capacity to manage high complexity patients who require specialist care. Services provided include emergency, critical care, acute medicine, planned and emergency surgery, maternity, neonatal, paediatric medicine and minor surgery, mental health, aged care and rehabilitation services, drug and alcohol, and a broad range of specialist outpatient clinics and services.

This is a very exciting time for Nepean Hospital as we embark upon a major one billion dollar redevelopment, developing into one of the largest tertiary hospitals in NSW. Stage One of the Redevelopment is now underway including an expanded emergency department, additional 200 overnight acute beds, 12 new operating theatres, 18 birthing suites, and a large new neonatal intensive care unit, with a roof top helipad and multistorey carpark to support the expansion of services due for completion in 2021. The NSW government has committed to delivering Stage Two with an enhanced 4 pod Intensive Care Service, Multimodal Medical Imaging and further expansion of inpatient acute beds with integrated care services, all due for completion in 2024.

NBMLHD has well-established national and international research programs with a strong commitment to research and teaching activities that contribute to improved patient outcomes. This is supported through the LHDs affiliation with the University of Western Sydney, University of Sydney and the Nepean Clinical School providing staff with access to clinics, teaching and research.

Selection Criteria

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
  3. Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  4. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  5. Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  6. Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  7. Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
