Advanced Trainee Emergency Medicine Nepean Hospital

Employment Type: Temporary Full Time or Part Time (to commence ASAP to 6 Feb 2022)
Hours Per Week: 38
Requisition ID: CAM10406

What you'll be doing

This position serves to continue and complete training in Emergency Medicine. Its main purpose is to fulfil requirements for advanced training and to facilitate the achievement of Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.
Advanced Trainees are responsible for the assessment, investigation and initial management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. This is under the supervision of the Emergency Physicians as required. It is expected that Advanced Trainees should be semi-autonomous and require less Emergency Physician input for the majority of patients presenting to the ED. Advanced Trainees should also take an active role in the resuscitation room and aim to run complex resuscitations, with supervision from the Emergency Physician, as part of their training. Advanced Trainees are also expected to assist in the supervision and teaching of Junior Medical Officers.

To facilitate completion of advanced training non-Emergency term rotations are available in Paediatrics, Ultrasound, Medical Education, Intensive Care, Anaesthetics and other rural and urban Emergency Departments.
Where you'll be working

Nepean Hospital is a major tertiary referral hospital for NBMLHD and, beyond that, provides high-level inpatient and outpatient services for people of all ages. Inpatient services generally have the capacity to manage high complexity patients who require specialist care. Services provided include emergency, critical care, acute medicine, planned and emergency surgery, maternity, neonatal, paediatric medicine and minor surgery, mental health, aged care and rehabilitation services, drug and alcohol, and a broad range of specialist outpatient clinics and services.

This is a very exciting time for Nepean Hospital as we embark upon a major one billion dollar redevelopment, developing into one of the largest tertiary hospitals in NSW. Stage One of the Redevelopment is now underway including an expanded emergency department, additional 200 overnight acute beds, 12 new operating theatres, 18 birthing suites, and a large new neonatal intensive care unit, with a roof top helipad and multistorey carpark to support the expansion of services due for completion in 2021. The NSW government has committed to delivering Stage Two with an enhanced 4 pod Intensive Care Service, Multimodal Medical Imaging and further expansion of inpatient acute beds with integrated care services, all due for completion in 2024.

NBMLHD has well-established national and international research programs with a strong commitment to research and teaching activities that contribute to improved patient outcomes. This is supported through the LHDs affiliation with the University of Western Sydney, University of Sydney and the Nepean Clinical School providing staff with access to clinics, teaching and research.
