About Department

Berengarra is a new multi storey 90 bed state of the art residential aged care facility that comprises of 60 mainstream and 30 Aged Persons' Mental Health (APMH) beds designed to deliver contemporary best practice person centred care. Berengarra compliments a suite of existing St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne's residential facilities.

Berengarra welcomed the first residents in March, and is undergoing a staggered opening throughout 2021 until the facility is at capacity.

About the Role

You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence based therapeutic recreation and leisure programs which benefit the psychological, spiritual and emotional wellbeing of the individual residents, in line with Aged Care Quality Standards, Aged Care Charter of Rights, and the principles of person centred care.

This is a full time role, Monday-Friday.

Classification for this position is HS2 ($66,768 per annum).


  • Utilise the principles of person centred care to plan an innovative program to maintain and assist residents to achieve active control of their own lives: with active participation of the resident/family and/or representatives and in consultation with the NUM.
  • Liaise daily with the NUM/delegate for resident clinical updates
  • Maintain accurate documentation of leisure profile development and activities for all residents within one month of admission, including progress note entries, lifestyle participation charting, and resident care plan evaluation against the stated resident goals and lifestyle objectives
  • Ensure lifestyle programs provide residents access to activities in the wider community, including culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups when required
  • Explore and facilitate residents hobbies and interests

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Certificate IV in Lifestyle/Leisure (essential)
  • Currently hold or willing to apply for a NDIS check
  • Previous experience working in residential aged care/ health care facility
  • Ability to adapt to the changing needs of residents
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and accreditation and person centred care and its application
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of care of persons living with complex mental health conditions, including dementia
