An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated speech pathologist with a strong interest in and commitment to providing excellent speech pathology services to join the speech pathology team across North Shore and Ryde Hospital Service (NSRHS). This temporary full-time 12 month speech pathology team leader locum will provide a service to the acute inpatients and selected outpatients within the Hunters Hill & RYDE LGAs.

This team leader position provides operational support to the speech pathology team on site at Ryde Hospital; including those in the Graythwaite facility and clinical leadership in the acute and community services. The senior clinician acts as a clinical resource for other speech pathologists based at Ryde and is responsible for the assessment, intervention and management of swallowing, communication and voice disorders for the acute inpatients admitted into Ryde Hospital and those referred to the outpatient service within the LGAs of Ryde and Hunter Hill.

Where you'll be working
The NSRHS Speech Pathology Department is located within the Division of Allied Health and Community Services and reports operationally through the NSRHS Director of Allied Health and Community Services to the Health Service Executive. The department provides speech pathology services across the North Shore & Ryde area with this position providing operational and clinical support to the speech pathology team on site at Ryde Hospital.
 

What you'll be doing

Provide leadership, assistance and support to the Allied Health (AH) team in the delivery of an efficient and high quality AH Service to patients and clients within the acute, community and rehabilitation services at Ryde Hospital.

This team leader position provides operational support to the speech pathology team on site at Ryde Hospital; including those in the Graythwaite facility and clinical leadership in the acute and community services. The senior clinician acts as a clinical resource for other speech pathologists based at Ryde and is responsible for the assessment, intervention and management of swallowing, communication and voice disorders for the acute inpatients admitted into Ryde Hospital and those referred to the outpatient service within the LGAs of Ryde and Hunter Hill.

The Ryde speech pathology department provides inpatient and outpatient assessment and intervention for communication and swallowing disorders for a predominantly aged population. This position involves managing a clinical caseload and providing adult speech pathology services for patients who present with or are admitted to Ryde Hospital, or who attend as outpatients. It also involves planning, administrative, staffing, coordination and organisational responsibilities as a departmental senior, and provides clinical orientation, direction, supervision and support to the speech pathology staff at Ryde Hospital.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Recognised qualification in Speech Pathology and eligibility for full membership of the Speech Pathology Association of Australia.
  • Demonstrated current clinical knowledge of the management of adult dysphagia and communication disorders with patients in a predominantly aged care population and a high level of contemporary interventional speech pathology skills.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in outpatient voice intervention and management.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience with instrumental assessment including VFSS & FEES.
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships within a multi-disciplinary team and interagency networks. Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use health information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritise and manage workload demands, meet deadlines and complete activities (including ability to work within scope of practice and seek assistance when required).
  • Demonstrate experience in effective staff management, supervision and development of staff at all levels.
